Small Kitchen Tables, Are They For You?
Many families now are deciding to have small kitchen tables, instead of the large kitchen tables in dining rooms of old. There are many reasons to go with small kitchen tables instead of their larger counterparts.
Small kitchen tables are all that is needed for many families. Family sizes have gotten progressively smaller, and a table that seats 6 to 8 people isn't always necessary any longer. Many times, room space is at a premium in today's homes. Why clog up your dining room with a huge table that is much bigger than you need?
Another positive aspect of small kitchen tables is that they are generally less expensive than larger tables. When you consider that you're also buying less chairs (for example, four instead of six), it's easy to see why small kitchen tables are often a better value than larger tables. Again, why pay more if small kitchen tables provide plenty of dining space for your family?
Let's face it, small kitchen tables can also be much more convenient. You may see a wonderful large table and chairs at the furniture store, but the dream of having such a large table quickly becomes a nightmare the first time you have to move it. Also, with many furniture companies you may end doing some or all of the assembly yourself. Why put yourself through that with a large table? If you agree, small kitchen tables may be for you.
There are also some aesthetic positives to small kitchen tables. Small kitchen tables provide a certain homey, comfortable feel that can't be acquired with larger, more imposing looking tables. There's something about a small table that makes a dining area more inviting. A family game night or other similar event can often work much better with a smaller table as well; no more having to reach several feet across to move your piece as you play Monopoly! These days, tables are used for more than just dining, and small kitchen tables provide a fun and fitting environment for homework, games and more activities.
Of course, there are advantages to larger tables, as well. Big family dinners that are common in so many families are much easier to do with a large table, as are holiday dinners and other special functions. For many though, such as those living in apartments or smaller houses, they simply don't have the room for a table that sits 6 to 8 people. However, it's not true that there's any noticeable difference in quality or workmanship between smaller and larger tables. In days past, many smaller tables were of lower quality and aimed exclusively for shoppers on a limited budget, but that's not necessarily true anymore!
When it comes down to it, it's your decision what kind of table size your home and family requires. If you agree with some of the points listed above, and you really don't need the extra space, then small kitchen tables may be the best fit for you!
